Do I Really Need to Have My Water Heater Flushed?

Yes, you really do. If you use a tank water heater to provide you with the hot water that you need throughout the day, then it is important that you have your water heater flushed on an annual basis. It may not sound like that urgent a procedure, but it can benefit you greatly.

While the flushing of your water heater in Bloomington, IL is not the most complex of services, it is one that must be handled by trained professionals. Dial our number to ensure that this is the case. We are more than happy to keep your tank water heater in peak working condition for you.

What Is the Purpose of Flushing a Water Heater?

Even if you do get your water from a municipal water supply, that doesn’t mean that the water entering your home via your plumbing system is going to be completely devoid of contaminants. In all likelihood, some level of mineral content, or even sediment picked up along its travels, is going to come in with your water. The problem is that this sediment and mineral content can build up at the bottom of your water heater tank.

When that happens, the sediment can form a hard layer between the water and the flames or electric coil that are supposed to be heating it. This essentially insulates the water from the heat, and that can cause your water heater to consume much more energy than it should have to in its operation. Higher utility bills aren’t the only issue you may face, though.

If you don’t have your water heater drained in order to clean out the sediment — and this is also a great time for checking the anode rod and other small tasks — then you risk having that sediment and mineral content build up in pipes. When that happens, issues with pressure can develop. This puts your system at risk for damages, including burst pipes and ruptured connections.
