Our Emergency Toilet Repair Guide

Do you have a malfunctioning toilet on your hands? There’s nothing quite as unpleasant as an overflowing toilet or one with a leaking base. There’s so much to do in terms of cleanup. You also don’t want your bathroom to suffer from any water damage.

What can you do then? Here we highlight some of the most common emergency toilet problems and what you can do to resolve them.

Overflowing Toilet

A toilet can overflow due to a number of reasons. For starters, if the drain is clogged or blocked, the toilet bowl can end up overflowing. You can shut off the toilet valve to prevent the flow of water into the bowl. If the valve is stuck, you will have to stop the water flow from inside the tank. Once this is done,  use a plunger to unclog the drain. However, if this doesn’t resolve the problem, you will have to get a professional plumber for toilet repair in Bloomington.

A blocked vent pipe can also cause a toilet to overflow. This usually happens because air is unable to move properly through the plumbing system. As a result, the toilet cannot flush properly and starts to overflow. You will need to seek help from a professional to identify the source of the blockage and remove it.

Leaking Base

If your toilet is not steady and you see a puddle of water surrounding the base, then you have a base leak on your hands. This usually occurs because of a problem in the wax ring that seals the base of the toilet.

It can be difficult to fix this problem by yourself. Instead, you need to get in touch with a licensed plumber. They might have to remove the toilet to identify the source of the leak and repair it. We also recommend not using the toilet until the base leak is fixed.

Weak Flushing

A toilet that doesn’t flush properly is the epitome of an emergency. Improper flushing can be due to a variety of reasons. In some cases, you may just have an old toilet on your hands and will need to replace it with a new one to resolve the problem.

A toilet may also not flush properly because the flushing holes present underneath the rim of the toilet bowl have become blocked. You can try and unclog these holes using a hard bristle tool or a wooden stick. For best results, we recommend calling a plumber to clean out the holes and unblock them.

Besides this, a loose or faulty flapper valve may also be responsible for a weak flush. If this is the case, you can ask your local plumber to install a replacement flapper.
