It may seem like a question with a very obvious answer, but the fact is that toilet leaks can be a little trickier than you may realize. This is due to the fact that leaks may develop at a few different points in the toilet, and that some issues may give the appearance of leaking when it is not really the case (such as condensation dripping off of the tank). The best thing to do is to schedule professional bathroom plumbing services in Bloomington, IL. When you decide to do so, just remember that ours is the number to dial.
Where Is the Leak?
As we mentioned above, there are a few areas in which a toilet leak may develop. One is from the tank itself. If there is not an obvious crack in the tank, it’s very possible that the ball cock is leaking, that connection at the water supply line is loose, or even that the bolts holding the tank in place have corroded to the point that water is leaking through them. Tightening the nut where the water supply line fees water into the tank may resolve the problem. If not, replacing the ball cock may be necessary. Should the leak be coming from the bolts, they may need replacement, though it could also just be the rubber washer that is compromised.
If the toilet is leaking at the floor level, chances are that the wax seal is no longer good. The toilet will have to be removed, the old wax gasket scraped away, and a new one put in place. This is a best case scenario, really. It’s also possible that the toilet flange, which connects the bottom of the toilet to the drainpipe, is cracked or otherwise damaged. If this is the case, that component will need to be replaced too. It’s a job that only a trained plumber should handle.
